Here are the 10 reasons why I love Amy & Tim

1. They did there wedding their way…exactly the way they wanted….no compromises
2. Amy and Tim came up with some of the most creative ideas I have seen in a long time
3. Amy hand folded 1000 paper cranes…now that is commitment to an idea
4. Amy actually said…it’s ok if I get wet and my dress get’s dirty..the pictures are the most important thing
5. Amy and Tim had cinnamon buns instead of a cake
6. Amy had each of her friends bouquets put together to make hers before she walked the aisle to show how important they are to her…amazing
7. Amy and Tim were on schedule..in fact ahead of schedule all day
8. Two people..the nicest you might ever meet and they found eachother
9. They brought in Jeanette from Delovely Creative who’s decor blew me away…fav centerpeices EVER
10. Amy and Tim are just plain genuine and that my friends is awesome!

the neigbourhood

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Weekends are a little crazy around our house and when the sun comes out, it resembles something of a three ring circus. Our house is the neighborhood hang out for all the kids so in addition to ours, we often have 5, 6, 8 more throughout the day. Not complaining though…the kids love it and it means that we get to spend more time with them….unless of course, I have editing to do!

Today was the last weekend before wedding season starts so I soaked up every minute that I could and managed to get the camera out for some pics of all the kids…I think we have some models in the making on our street…

signature album series volume 2 | photographer erin gilmore

Friday, April 16th, 2010

So I promised myself that I would design 3 albums to start off the signature series. I wanted to really try to capture the essence of each wedding and create a fluidity throughout the entire piece by custom tinting each image to fit the same tonal range and after the first one, I wanted to give the second a very vintage vibe… this is volume 2 in the signature album series and features the wedding of Tania & Justin from last summer…one of my favs. Thanks for helping me create the photos that inspired me!

the wedding show | vancouver wedding photographer erin gilmore

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

It was such a long day but it was so exhilarating meeting with so many amazing couples about their weddings for this year and the early birds for 2011.  People seem to be really trying to think outside the box and that just makes me excited!  Gabrielle hung out for the day handing out aislewalk while I chatted with couples…perfect!  I did get a chance to take a quick break to catch some shots of the booth and of the gowns by Caroline Calvert which I always enjoy…great show and combine that with the Art Ross win for Henrik Sedin and it might just have been one of the best days of the year!

shangri la | vancouver wedding photographer erin gilmore

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

I have been in this industry here in Vancouver for many years.  Some would say a veteran but I prefer to say highly experienced!  About 51/2 years ago, I embarked on an ambitious project to produce a wedding magazine not for the industry but for the brides and grooms.  Full of information and vendors that shared that philosophy that the couples had to come first.  It was a tiny little grass roots publication that required a ton of work and many sleepless nights to make it a reality.  It is this project that introduced me to David Bachtel.

At the time, David was in charge of catering at Diva at the Met.  Right away I connected with David. He is just one of those people that you know is a man of his words, puts 110% into everything he does, and always is willing to go the extra mile to ensure that whatever he is working on with you is amazing.  I knew that my magazine aislewalk had found a home.  Wherever David would go, I would be there in support.

Fast forward a few years and David made the move to head up catering over at Pacific Palisades and for the next 3 years, our business relationship continued to grow as did our personal one.  I am so lucky to call David a friend.  The magazine continued to have its annual industry events at the palisades until this December when we sadly learned that it would be closing its doors in April.  While many were concerned about finding new jobs in this economic climate, I knew without a doubt David would find a new home.  He was just too good at what he did not too.

I got the call about a month ago from David that not only had he found a new home but it was a beautiful home indeed.  Shangri la must have seen what I had seen so many years ago and they welcomed them to their fabulous property to head up events.   Shangri la is one of Vancouver’s most stunning hotel venues.  I love it’s location, it’s concept, and now with David at the helm, I can say without a doubt that events there will be perfection.   I can’t wait to photograph there this year!

To David: Congratulations and to Shangri la: you are extremely lucky to have him!

Here are some shots from my visit to check out the function space…

photo of the day | vancouver photographer erin gilmore

Monday, April 5th, 2010

I decided that today I was going to tackle my inbox. I started first with moderating all the comments on the blog figuring that it would be quick and i would actually get to check something off my to do list before 9am…

Can you say spam? I just want to put it out there that I am not interested in cialis, rolex watches, viagra, or in russian hot babes….seriously? 600 spam comments in two days…this is getting ridiculous. They are even getting craftier with their titles and make it seems like they are really commenting on your work. Sneaky but not sneaky enough. I guess what bugs me most is that I have to weed through it all to find the true comments that people have taken the time out of their own busy lives to write. We are all busy and the fact that people actually take the time out to say something to me is a big deal to me. I guess it is the world that we live in that spam now just has to find a place in our workflow…

so in the spirit of my today’s mission…here is the photo of the day
